All of the following navigation tools appear on every page of the IPST website with the exception of the Main Selector buttons (circled in yellow).

The Assistance Items are patterned after Georgia Tech's home page Assistance Items. The "Campus Map" and "Directories" options link you back to Georgia Tech's main site and reference Georgia Tech as a whole. The "Site Map", "Site Help" and "Search" options are IPST specific.

The Indirect selectors allow you to navigate to sections of the IPST site that are not directly involved with research. One exception is "Members' Channel" which is located with the indirect selectors due to its password protection.

The Main Selector buttons appear only on the IPST Home Page and act as the opening research-related navigation tools. The same options, howerver, do appear on every page as part of the footer.

The IPST internal page is accessable to IPST staff and students only.

The other part of the footer contains links to the "Contact" page and the "Mission Statement" page as well as the "Georgia Tech Legal and Privacy Statement" page. Links to both the "Contact" and "Mission Statement" pages are also availabe under the "Welcome" section which appears as the first option under the Indirect selectors.

The upper left logo and the lower right logo are links back to the IPST Home Page and the Georgia Tech Home Page respectively.

Finally, the footer contains the date on which that page was last updated.

On the sub-pages the Main Selector buttons to the left are replaced by two sets of selectors.

The first is a set of forward navigation buttons that will change dependant on your current location within the website. Because of the expected browsing style of visitors to this site these sub menus will appear where the Main Menu would normally remain. As stated earlier, the Main Menu options will still be available on all pages as part of the footer.

The second is a set of return-selectors acting as a "crumb-trail" in that it offers the user the shortest path back to the home page, allowing them to go immediately back to Home or to any step in between. In cases where the current page is one step away from the Home Page with no forward navigation options only the return-selectors will appear.

The only other difference between the home page and the sub-pages is the additional link to the original main menu from the home page.  As on the home page these also appear as part of the footer.
