Paper is an important part of our society and our future. And the industry that provides our society with these products is in need of scientists and engineers that have the unique knowledge and training to develop the full potential of paper and cellulose based products. This new generation of scientists will create new uses for paper, develop new nanocellulose and hemicellulose based materials, discover better genetics for renewing our forests, improve manufacturing processes, and harness new energy sources and other possibilities derived from the chemistry of processing cellulose.
IPST at Georgia Tech is committed to providing the “next generation” Paper Science and Engineering graduate educational program. The foundation of this program is built upon leading research in the fields of engineering and the natural sciences and the existing expertise from Georgia Tech as it applies to the pulp and paper industry.
But IPST needs your help to develop these break-through technologies that will sustain our industry, and that will provide IPST with the very best academic resources - to produce graduates that will become future industry leaders.
Through the years, many alumni and their families, retired faculty and industry executives, and other friends have found planned gifts to be excellent vehicles for benefiting IPST. In addition to their personal satisfaction, such gifts offer major planning opportunities to minimize federal and state taxes, increasing the possibilities for effective distribution of assets. The wide degree of flexibility permitted in arranging a planned gift while still obtaining favorable tax benefits has contributed significantly to making such gifts popular and potent estate-planning tools.
Depending on the asset given and the gift method selected, a donor can generally expect to obtain some or all of the following benefits:
- Fulfill philanthropic goals
- Reduce income tax through a deduction for the gift
- Avoid capital-gain tax on gifts of long-term appreciated property
- Retain a stream of income for life for him – or herself and for other beneficiaries
- Increase spendable income
- Eliminate potential federal estate tax on property passing to charity upon the donor’s death
- Reduce costs and time in estate settlement
On other pages of this Web section we have highlighted a variety of planned- options for giving and a list of needs and naming opportunities that will help you realize the greatest personal and financial satisfaction from making your gift to IPST at Georgia Tech. We would be delighted have you review this information with your own tax and legal advisors for a full discussion of the tax implications of the gifts and methods that appear to be of interest to you.
