Commercial Activities:
1942
1. Research 1942 in the United States and in the world. What was going on? What were the
major issues and events? Divide the class into groups. Each group should research a topic related to
the year such as WWII, music, news events, etc. Present group reports to the class.
2. Write a letter you think might have been written on this piece of paper.
3. Design a watermark that commemorates another year in history. Be sure to include symbols
that represent the time.

1. Design a watermark for your own paper mill.
Bank notes
1. Look at dollar bills in the light. What's in them? Find other items with watermarks.
2. Write a mystery story that uses a watermark as a clue or as evidence in the case.
3. Design a watermark for your bank or create money for your country. Be sure to use items
that represent your country in your design.
