Girl with PaperScheduling a Guided Tour

The Robert C. Williams Paper Museum is located in the Institute of Paper Science and Technology at 500 10th St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30332-0620.

The Museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Parking is free. Groups of 10 or less are welcome to take a free self-guided tour (a $3.00 donation is appreciated). Groups of 10 or more must reserve a guided tour. To reserve a tour please contact Fran Rottenberg, Education Curator, at 404-894-5726 or send an email.



The Robert C. Williams Paper Museum offers three guided tours. Choose the tour that best suits your group!

Paper Travel — Travel back in time and follow the path of papermaking that began in ancient China and leads to the advanced technology of today! Discover the art, science, history, and geography of paper and papermaking.

The charge for this tour is $5.50 per person. One chaperone per ten students is admitted free with public school groups. This tour can be booked for a minimum of ten students and a maximum of fifty. One teacher per group will receive a free copy of the Teacher's Guide CD.

Advance reservations are required.

Monday – Friday 10:00AM. Grades 1 – 12. Limit 50 students. Allow 1 hour. Georgia Performance Standards covered: S2CS6-7, S2P1, S2L1, S3CS7-8, S4CS7-8, S5CS7-8,S5E1, S6CS1, S6CS7-9, S7CS8-9, S8CS1, S8CS7-9.

Paperworks! — This includes a guided tour of the Museum, as well as a hands-on papermaking workshop. Students will enjoy making their own sheets of paper from cotton pulp.

The charge for this tour is $8.50 per person. One chaperone per ten students is admitted free with public school groups. This tour can be booked for a minimum of fifteen students and a maximum of fifty. One teacher per group will receive a free copy of the Teacher's Guide CD.

Advance reservations are required.

Monday – Friday 10:00 AM. Grades 1 – 12. Limit 50 students. Allow 1.5 hours. Georgia Performance Standards covered: S2CS6-7, S2P1, S2L1,S3CS7-8, S4CS7-8, S5CS7-8, S5E1, S6CS1, S6CS7-9, S7CS8-9, S8CS1, S8CS7-9.

Paper in Our World — Trace the evolution of papermaking from plants and recycled rags to the discovery of trees as a source of fibers for paper. Learn about the benefits of trees as a source for paper and examine the process of recycling. Study the issues of global warming and the important role that recycling, sustainability practices and current research play in solving our global environmental problems. Students will enjoy making their own sheet of paper from cotton pulp.

The charge for this tour is $8.50 per person. One chaperone per ten students is admitted free with public school groups. This tour can be booked for a minimum of ten students and a maximum of fifty. One teacher per group will receive a free copy of the Teacher's Guide CD.

Paperworks! and Paper in Our World cover all five domains of the Georgia Performance Standards for Visual Arts for Grades K – 12. Paper Travel covers all domains except Production (PR):

Procedure for requesting a school tour:

Choose a school tour from the above choices and contact Fran Rottenberg, Education Curator, at 404-894-5726 or send an email. You can fill out the Tour Request Form on the telephone or you can fax it or mail it.

Please have the following information when you call:

  • School name and address.
  • Contact person, phone number, and email address.
  • Three dates that you are available.
  • Number of students and number of chaperones.
  • Grade level.
  • Any special needs.

Procedure for confirming a school tour:

Once you have filled out your request information and you will receive a tour date and a deposit form. You must send in a 50% deposit to hold that date.

You will then receive a confirmation letter with the balance of payment due. You must bring the balance of payment due along with this letter to the museum the day of your tour.

School tour guidelines:

  • School tours are given Monday through Friday by reservation only and begin at 10:00 A.M.
  • Tours are booked on a first come, first served basis.
  • A non-refundable deposit is required at least three weeks prior to your visit.
  • Make your deposit check out to Georgia Institute of Technology.
  • A confirmation letter will be sent to you confirming your tour date after your deposit has been received.
  • If schools are closed due to weather, or Georgia Institute of Technology is closed, we will reschedule your tour.

Procedure for scheduling an adult group tour:

College students and adults can arrange for a guided group tour by filling out the Tour Request Form or by contacting Fran Rottenberg, Education Curator, at 404-894-5726 or send an email.

The adult group tour fees are $5.50 for Paper Travel, $8.50 for Paperworks!, and $8.50 for Paper in Our World
